Bill Wachtler
The natural beauty and variety of the Pacific Northwest provide endless visual inspiration. I’ve always loved sketching, and I often bring that free-form, “sketchy” quality into my work alongside strong, vivid color. I combine natural rhythm, motion, and occasional stillness to express what I see and feel in the scenes and subjects I paint and photograph. All of my original art is available as prints made with the highest-quality archival inks, paper, and matting.
Artist Statement
I grew up in a small farming town in western Minnesota, surrounded by cornfields and grain elevators—one of which I helped build while working for my father. My mother, an avid gardener, filled our home with vibrant flowers and fresh vegetables, which likely influenced my current work running a native plant nursery with my wife.
Summers at our family’s lake cabin sparked my love for water, boats, and woodworking. My art often reflects these passions, featuring nautical themes, vivid flowers, and handcrafted wood frames and tables. Influenced by design lessons from Peter Moore, I strive to create a sense of rhythm and harmony in my work.
Through my travels across the world, I’ve refined my eye for photography and painting, eventually selling my work in a gallery. My hope is that my art captures the beauty of the Pacific Northwest’s nautical character and inspires a deeper appreciation for nature’s order and design.
